My First Blogging Experience

“There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you.”― Maya Angelou

I always thought of expressing my feelings about a particular event that affected me in any way by writing it down on a piece of paper, but no matter how many times I try to jot down those thoughts, I couldn’t find proper words to convey them. I always read articles written by other people and wondered how easily they could write. Honestly, I was a bit jealous of them.

Recently, in my second module at GCU in skills class, we were told to write a blog to express our feeling on subjects that matter to us. I was quite nervous and had no idea about what or how to blog because it requires serious writing skills, and I had no experience of it. To understand the basics of blogging, I researched on the internet and began reading other blogs to have an idea. It was not that helpful until I wrote my first blog about homesickness. To write my first blog, I planned to write anything that comes to my mind on the topic. As I was writing it, I realized that I am pouring all my feelings in to it, I felt quite relieved afterward. Moreover, my blog was appreciated by my supervisor. To be honest, word of appreciation has overcome my fear and I am more confident to write and express my feelings daily.

It was not easy at first to think and write, but I am sure that I will learn more with time. It is a skill that many people can and should learn because it is a good way to express your feelings and be more creative.

A Gift From Death

Life is unpredictable, and death is inevitable. I have heard this sentence countless times, but I never understood what it meant until that day.
We all are surrounded by our loved ones, without which we cannot imagine our life. We understand their value most when they depart us.  I still remember those days clearly. Such is the loss of the loved one. Seven years ago, my grandma suffered a serious health issue and was admitted to the hospital. I always had a fear of losing her, but like my many other family members, I thought that she would be coming home soon. Unfortunately, she never recovered and died within a week. I was devastated by it. I never imagined the person I loved most in my life is gone forever. I wanted to shout and cry my heart out, but at the same time, I realized that I had to be strong. I had to get hold of the situation.
The pain of losing a loved one is excruciating and in-explainable, but life moves on, and with the time you realize that the moments spent with them were the best moment of your life. Her death changed my whole perspective toward life. I started caring for people around me and started spending more time with them. I realized that one day, everyone has to go, and even though it is something that is not in our hands, what we can do is to take care of them and spend quality time with them so that we have no regrets.

HOMESICKNESS

Home, a place where you are born, is one of the safe places on earth. It is a place where you spend most of the time with your loved ones. I have been in Glasgow for six months and not a single day goes by where I haven’t missed my home and my family. I have always lived with my parents, and I have always traveled with them, so this was my first time traveling and living abroad without them.

Before coming to Glasgow, I thought that it was a matter of time, and with time I will be able to adjust myself to this new city, but it was way more difficult than I thought. During my initial days in Glasgow, it was a real challenge for me to live without my parents. At one point, I just wanted to leave everything and go back home. It was hard for me to focus on my studies. It was affecting me emotionally, as well as mentally. I needed help. One day, I found out that my university is organizing an event on mental health. I attended the event, and I talked about my problems. Discussing it with someone else helped me a lot because sometimes we need someone to listen to us. It helps us release the burden that we are carrying. Sometimes, I still feel lonely, but now I have enough confidence , which is one of the common good attribute and believe in myself that I can cope with any situation, even living alone in this city . My experience made me understood that it is not an easy task so I decided that in future I will talk to someone when ever there is a feeling of loneliness.

Introduce Yourself (Example Post)

This is an example post, originally published as part of Blogging University. Enroll in one of our ten programs, and start your blog right.

You’re going to publish a post today. Don’t worry about how your blog looks. Don’t worry if you haven’t given it a name yet, or you’re feeling overwhelmed. Just click the “New Post” button, and tell us why you’re here.

Why do this?

  • Because it gives new readers context. What are you about? Why should they read your blog?
  • Because it will help you focus you own ideas about your blog and what you’d like to do with it.

The post can be short or long, a personal intro to your life or a bloggy mission statement, a manifesto for the future or a simple outline of your the types of things you hope to publish.

To help you get started, here are a few questions:

  • Why are you blogging publicly, rather than keeping a personal journal?
  • What topics do you think you’ll write about?
  • Who would you love to connect with via your blog?
  • If you blog successfully throughout the next year, what would you hope to have accomplished?

You’re not locked into any of this; one of the wonderful things about blogs is how they constantly evolve as we learn, grow, and interact with one another — but it’s good to know where and why you started, and articulating your goals may just give you a few other post ideas.

Can’t think how to get started? Just write the first thing that pops into your head. Anne Lamott, author of a book on writing we love, says that you need to give yourself permission to write a “crappy first draft”. Anne makes a great point — just start writing, and worry about editing it later.

When you’re ready to publish, give your post three to five tags that describe your blog’s focus — writing, photography, fiction, parenting, food, cars, movies, sports, whatever. These tags will help others who care about your topics find you in the Reader. Make sure one of the tags is “zerotohero,” so other new bloggers can find you, too.
